Founder of SchoolScape, she has developed programmes that have been implemented by education departments in several states in India.

Wherever she has worked, she has fought for the child’s right to live and learn spontaneously.

She began her teaching career at K.F.I. School, the Krishnamurti Foundation India School in Chennai. Later, as the first principal of Abacus School in Chennai, she brought Montessori practices from kindergarten to high school into a contemporary perspective. She also worked with UNICEF, helping to develop a quality curriculum for implementation in government schools in ten states.

She conducted a training programme called ‘Professional Development of Teacher Educators’ for teachers in Tamil Nadu. The education department took the modules developed and trained 200,000 primary school teachers in the state. This led to the development of the ABL programme for primary schools, which was then implemented in all 37,500 primary schools in the state.

She has organised many national and international conferences and has spearheaded the democratic education movement in India under the banner of IDEC and InDEC. She has participated and presented papers at national and international seminars.

She has published many articles and papers; her work has been mentioned in several books and in many reports on best practices to be implemented.

Beyond education, her interests include crafts, philosophy, indigenous knowledge and wildlife.

His professional life has been centred on five main areas:

  • education via his job as a Physical and Sports Education teacher,
  • adult education in a university institute (Catholic University of Lille) and now as a freelancer where he works on cross-cutting issues,
  • sport, both as an ultra-distance cyclist and as a coach (middle-distance athletics)
  • mental preparation;
  • and the practice of mindfulness, discovered more than forty years ago and which, over the decades, has become a daily must and gives meaning to all his activities.

The development of mindfulness or full presence now takes pride of place in his educational field and in that of sports practice.

He has trained more than 5,000 teachers in mindfulness practices so that they can use them in their professional context and pass them on to children, adolescents and young people. He also invites athletes to this practice in their training and competitions.

Raymond Barbry considers himself an independent researcher. He is a member of CIRET (Centre International de Recherche en Études Transdisciplinaires).

He practices ultra-distance cycling and long mountain hikes. It is in the context of these practices that he encountered the state of flow.

Conference

The way to the state of “flow” in sports practice

Reaching the highest level of control with ease and pleasure… even for a beginner!
The state of flow is the Grail for most sportsmen and women!
However, wanting to reach it too much makes its presence impossible! Such is the paradox in which most athletes find themselves. This state cannot be decreed, it is welcomed. The question then is: can we learn to set up the conditions that will allow “flow” to occur? How can we allow the athlete, and any person, to experience the state of plenitude or state of grace in his or her practice?

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”

This Amerindian proverb, which introduces the International Summit of Education for the Future, is also an invitation to listen to the words of the new generations in order to build the world of tomorrow.

It is clear that today we are leaving for our children and young people a totally unbalanced world where poverty, malnutrition, hunger, wars and pollution are worsening and intensifying.

In the age of the internet and social networks, the world is increasingly international. We are moving towards a universality of knowledge and education without borders. From the beginning, we wanted to give young people a voice. And Life has put everything in place! Satyanna Chris Luken is delighted to bring together a few young people from around the world between the ages of 18 and 27, for a round table exploring 3 main questions:

  1. What is it like at school, or college, for you in your country? What is great? good? boring? unpleasant? useless?
  2.  If you had a magic wand to change one thing? what is the first thing you would change? And if this magic wand could change a second thing, what would it be? a third?
  3. What would be the best school or college for you? … the school or college of your dreams?

Satyanna has already created a festival where she gave a voice to young people. In 2015, the 5th annual Green ValentineS Festival in Laguna Beach, California, invited young people to speak out about their concerns about their future on mother earth and how we could help them to create a sustainable future.
